Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What standards and classes do the cable conductors comply with?
The conductors comply with IEC 60228. They are available in Class 1 or Class 2 (made of plain or metal-coated annealed copper, plain aluminium, or aluminium alloy), and in Class 5 (made of plain or metal-coated copper).
What is the maximum operating temperature for XLPE and PVC/A insulation?
For normal operation, the maximum conductor temperature is 90°C for XLPE insulation and 70°C for PVC/A insulation. Under short-circuit conditions (up to 5 seconds maximum), XLPE can withstand up to 250°C, while PVC/A can withstand 160°C (for cross-sections ≤300 mm²) or 140°C (for cross-sections >300 mm²).
Are there different sheathing compound options available?
Yes, sheathing options include Thermoplastic types like Polyvinyl chloride (ST1 with 80°C limit, ST2 with 90°C limit), Polyethylene (ST3 with 80°C limit, ST7 with 90°C limit), and Halogen-free (STs with 90°C limit). Elastomeric options include Polychloroprene, chlorosulfonated polyethylene, or similar polymers (SE1 with 85°C limit).
How do I determine the nominal insulation thickness for my cable size?
Nominal thickness is determined by both the conductor cross-sectional area and the rated voltage. For example, at a rated voltage of 0.6/1 kV, a 50 mm² conductor requires an insulation thickness of 1.4 mm for PVC/A or 1.0 mm for XLPE. Detailed specifications for all sizes up to 1000 mm² are provided in our technical tables.
Can I request customized constructions for inner coverings and metal layers?
Yes. The construction designs of the inner coverings, fillers, and metal layers offer multiple choices that can be customized to meet your specific application requirements. Our dedicated R&D and production teams support each custom request one-on-one.
